Each week, students in Art For Mental Health will be invited to create art to respond to prompts that invite them to tell their stories or articulate their questions, concerns, challenges or distresses.

Before the program begins, each student will share one particular area or specific challenge that they would like to work on. This can be as broad as, “making art to de-stress” or “just to have fun” or can be more specific, such as “making art to cope with school anxiety”.

Art For Mental Health utilizes the 5 pillars of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) to guide our weekly activities. These 5 pillars are

1) Self awareness

2) Self management

3) Social Awareness

4) Relationship skills

5) Responsible decision making

The purpose of Art For Mental Health is to provide a safe space for students to express themselves fully. This program combine Expressive Art-making with Active Listening and Mindfulness. While this program is not a replacement for therapy, it can be very supportive for anyone who is facing mental health challenges.
